Important
This website and the associated social media profiles are run by a private individual as a side project, not by a record label or corporation. This website consists entirely of static HTML, CSS and images and does not use cookies or track visitors in any way.
What is this site?
thesong.is contains many pages that are reached via social media posts featuring meme content along the music this project is promoting. Think of it as an Instagram meme which came pre-Shazammed for you via a simple link. You may have reached this site from one of those videos, where a link to this site was visibly watermarked or included in the description. Welcome! The general idea is to repost memes and similar content, hoping the posts will catch on and draw attention to our best tracks. This site is working only with a small number of artists the author personally knows and it will stay that way.
Why?
To get more people listening to these different musical projects in pursue of bigger opportunities in music.
Technical info
The static websites are generated via a simple Python script and then uploaded to static web hosting. That's it. This project is intended as a low-tech MVP to test this music marketing concept.
What responsibility does this website take regarding its content?
The image/video and song pairings are selected by the artist of the particular song. The content remixed/reused/reposted is content already commonly being reposted on social media. All of it is safe-for-work. It's not intended to piss anyone off, so if there are any problems with anything we've posted, please contact the project.
In general, regarding those who see our content in their feed, this project does not take for granted the end user. This method of reposting content and adding your own music is an existing way to promote music on these platforms, and this is just one more techy way of doing it. The hope is that, through a quality selection of memes, which one might actually want to see appear in their feed anyway, we can sneak in some music we'd love to be heard. It's less of an evil master plan and more of an experiment.
Is this one of those weekend vibe‑coded projects?
Yes. I'll be totally transparent, this was vibe coded using LLMs over the span of a couple days using various models. However, the author is aware that the dangers of vibe coding are real, and transparency about using it in something people are actually using/visiting is a good step forward. It's worth noting the actual content we make is completely hand picked, no AI is used in the image/song pairings! This website is entirely risk-free to use because there is no backend, no database, no login and no user information is stored. It is simply a series of procedurally generated static websites that display information and link to other places.
